What is Discord?

Discord is a social networking platform that allows for communication within groups. Discord, like Slack or Microsoft Teams, allows users to communicate via text through a variety of individual groups, called "channels." Users can post text, images, and links. The use of channels helps group conversations by topic. 

The Discord app is available for Android and Apple devices, and can also be accessed directly via their website.

Getting Started on Discord

Once you join, here's what to do:

1. Read the Rules: Check out our pinned welcome message in the #welcome-read-first channel. Quick version: be professional, protect patient privacy, and represent your agency well.
2. Introduce Yourself: Head to #general and tell us your name, school, agency, and what got you into EMS!
3. Select Your Region: Use the reaction roles to join your regional channel and connect with nearby agencies.
4. Explore Channels:
   • #general: Main discussion hub for EMS topics
   • #conference: Everything related to the annual conference
   • #case-studies: Educational scenarios and clinical discussions (forum-style)
   • Regional channels: Connect with agencies in your area
   • #off-topic: Non-EMS conversations and community building

Our Discord follows the same professional standards as our in-person events:

• Protect Patient Privacy: Never share PHI or identifying information
• Be Professional: You represent your agency and the collegiate EMS community
• Stay Respectful: Constructive discussion welcome, personal attacks are not
• Stay On-Topic: Use appropriate channels for different discussions
• Follow Discord's Terms: No harassment, spam, or illegal content
