Initially introduced at the 2002 Annual Conference, The Richard W. Vomacka Student Speaker Competition is named for an NCEMSF mentor who passed away in October 2001. This symposium is a chance for student lecturers to showcase their presentation skills and earn bragging rights for their collegiate EMS organization. The competition is judged on a speaker's ability to deliver a relevant high-quality seminar to his/her peers - points are awarded based on strength of the submitted abstract, quality of the delivered presentation and audiovisual materials.
For those students interested in participating in the Richard W. Vomacka Student Speaker Competition, please attach a Word Document to an e-mail to
- Full name of speaker (as it should appear on a name tag and in the published program with academic degrees and clinical certifications)
- School Affiliation / Campus Based EMS Group and any applicable leadership titles
- Email address
- Telephone number
- A brief biography suitable for printing as well as a current CV and/or resume
- Proposed talk title and abstract both suitable for printing (abstracts should be no more than 200 words)
- A detailed outline of the proposed 45 minute presentation is encouraged as well
The deadline for Richard W. Vomacka submission is February 1, 2012. Applicants will be notified of the commitee's decision by February 6th.

From the Airport
Super Shuttle offers low-cost transportation from BWI airport to the conference host facility The cost is $14 each way (minus a 10% discount) and can be reserved by clicking here. For larger groups, it may be more cost effective to rent the entire Super Shuttle van for $75 each way (up to 10 people - no additional discount applies).
Taxi service from BWI airport to the conference facility is metered and will cost about $27 each way and should take about 15 minutes (highly dependent upon traffic).
The cheapest option from BWI airport is the Light Rail system, which costs $1.60. See more info below in in the "Mass Transit" section.
Automobile
Please see the facility page for links to directions. Self-parking for normal-sized vehicles at the host hotel is $27 per day. Valet parking is available at $36 per day. However, if you'd like to save some money, street parking may be available in the vicinity.
Mass Transit
The one-way fare for Light Rail from the airport is $1.60 and will take about 40 minutes including the three-block walk from the "Convention Center" station at the corner of S. Howard Street and Pratt Street. For additional information about local mass transit, please visit Maryland Transit Administration Web site where you'll find maps and schedules.

From the Airport - DCA
Courtesy shuttle picks up at the Old Terminal (2nd Curb by the marked Hotel Shuttle stop location) and New Terminal Arrivals, Door 5 and Door 9 (1st Curb by the marked Hotel Shuttle stop location).
Shuttle to Reagan National Airport (DCA) departs the hotel every 20 minutes on the hour from 5:00am – 12:00am. (Times subject to change.)
Automobile

Mass Transit - Metro
The host hotel is a 10 minute walk from the Crystal City Metro Station (Blue and Yellow lines)
Courtesy Hyatt shuttle access to and from Crystal City Metro Station is provided at the corner of 18th street and S. Bell Street.
The Hyatt shuttle departs the hotel every 15 minutes on the hour from 6:00am – 10:00pm. (Times subject to change.)

The 19th Annual NCEMSF Conference will be hosted at the Hyatt Regency Baltimore.
Soak up the true essence of Charm City at the Hyatt Regency Baltimore. Nestled squarely in the heart of downtown, this AAA Four-Diamond Inner Harbor smoke-free hotel offers a luxury gateway to this enchanting waterfront town.
As of February 2nd, the NCEMSF room block at the Hyatt is full and the hotel nearly sold out for the weekend of the conference. Few rooms at the Hyatt are still available, however, the NCEMSF special conference room rate of $132 per night (plus taxes) is no longer guaranteed and market rates may apply.
